This week it was my turn to pick a topic for our Weight Loss Weekly post! Right now, I'm focusing on losing some weight before our summer beach vacation (that means bathing suits and shorts EEK!!) which is 8 weeks away.
So I asked the girls this: When you're working hard towards a certain weight loss goal, what is your one unique secret weapon or trick that helps speed up your weight loss?
Joie de Vivre: "Secret weapons in the weight loss arsenal? Okay, I'll dish..." Read more at Joie de vivre: An amateur gourmet's guide.
Bernie: "When I first read Sunny's question I thought "well this will be an easy post, short, a few words even" because I really don't have one. My attempts at speeding up weight loss have been sad sad affairs that usually last a whole 15min after my burst of motivation and planning." Read more over at Yo-yonomore.
Nurit: The last time I wore a bikini was 6 years ago when I was 4 months pregnant. We were in Hawaii. But I do have a secret to share with you about wearing bathing suit again. It all began 4 years ago… read more at 1 family. friendly. food.
Me: Hmm, I think my most helpful secret weapon has to do with a delicious dessert that is actually not forbidden, not even when I'm trying to speed up my weight loss!
The hardest thing for me to give up is and always has been sweets. I love dessert!! When I'm trying to speed up my weight loss though, I know that is exactly where I need to cut back. So I learned a little trick from "French Women Don't Get Fat". It's a recipe for Apple Tart Without Dough.
This apple tart is sweet, low in calories, and more nutritional then what you would buy in a pastry shop. I think it's delicious and it really helps me get through the week without cheating. Since it's basically just baked apples with cinnamon, and a tiny bit of sugar and butter, I know that it's a treat I can enjoy every night if I want!
I love to make this apple tart after dinner. I put it on a really pretty dessert plate and drink it with my hot tea. If you have dessert pangs when you're eating healthy, like I do, give this a try!
Here's the recipe:
*Apple Tart Without Dough
Ingredients:
4 Golden Delicious Apples
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp cinnamon
dots of butter
1. Peel and core apples, cut into thin slices and sprinkle with the lemon juice. Place the apples on a tartlet pan, shaping the slices like those on a small tart.
2. Preheat the oven to 275 degrees. Mix the sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle it on the apples slices. Add small dots of butter, then cover with the remaining cinnamon and sugar mixture. Bake for 15 minutes.
Oh wow Sunny, this sounds delicious...I'm going to try this. Thanks!
ReplyDelete(I'm freaking out already about the beach house...ugggh, why did you remind me..haha)
I've never actually tried this but a lady in the grocery store saw me reaching for the Dannon Light-n-Fit yogurts. She said that she always stocks up on them, freezes some and eats them as 'frozen yogurt' for dessert when she has a sweet tooth... Not a bad idea!! Only 60 calories (or 80 now) and really good for you. I bet some fresh berries on top would be just delish! ~ Emily P
ReplyDeleteMaking individual portions of Point Free Jello in fancy glasses in a fun desert for me. It always feels like my own little treat!
ReplyDeleteI've never had any luck with speeding up weight loss. My body does what it does.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite dessert is Skinny Cow ice cream cones. Mmmmm. The baked apples sound delish. I bet that'd be good on all kinds of stuff - yogurt, oatmeal ...
Yum, that sounds like a great idea, I do a similar thing with an oat and banana slice, I never thought of it as a secret weapon but you are so right :)
ReplyDeleteCraving something so bad and not having it is a recipe for a disaster indeed. It's great that you have found something that works for you.
ReplyDeleteBathing suits and shorts - yikes, indeed!!!
ReplyDeleteYummy recipe - thanks for sharing!

That apple thing looks like it would taste delicious on frozen yogurt like vanilla. YUM! As silly as this sounds---I bake. When I bake desserts, I feel really sensible about how much I want to eat. I know that sounds weird but making my own desserts and having them around takes away the "taboo" element of eating and I get to know exactly what's going into my body. I also eat often and I love tea. My secret weapon is eating what I want when I want it, but making it myself and monitoring my other nutrients throughout the day. Does that sound sensible :D
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried this recipe yet! I must!
